Board of Directors
provides leadership and provides long and short term planning in accordance
with the mission statement and the mandates of the Society.
IWS is consensus, feminist-based society. This means that all decisions must be debated until there is a consensus between the board and all members of staff. A consensus means that all members are content with the decision. To see how we are structured, click here.
The Board of Directors meet once a month, and deal with such topics as:
- Special Events, Fundraising
- Board Recruitment (Membership)
- Planning
- Public/Community Relations
- Human Resources/Personnel issues
Any woman in the community can become a member of the Board of Directors. It is a wonderful opportunity to contribute in a meaningful manner to the well-being of the various communities on Haida Gwaii/the Queen Charlotte Islands.
Steps for becoming a Board Member:
- Attend a board meeting (as an introduction to the society)
- Become a member of IWS
- Fill in an expression of interest form to become of board member
- You will then be appointed by an existing board member to the board, unless there is a perceived conflict of interest or non-adherence to board criteria.
